This past Tuesday night, President Obama addressed
the nation about the ongoing conflict occurring in Syria. Many Americans viewed
the speech because they were interested to see if President Obama would give a
definite answer to the question on everyone’s mind, “Is the United States going
to war with Syria?” President Obama stressed many key points throughout
his speech; however, one key point that stood out was when Obama stated, “We
can not raise our children in a world where we do not go through with our
actions.” Therefore, we need to take a stand and act quickly on the issue with Syria before we
run out of time. The overall message effect in his address is cognitive because
the audience received a large amount of significant information in a short period
of time. The Huffington Post wrote an article about members of
Congress and their reaction to Obama’s address. Senator John McCain reacted and
while he appreciated that Obama spoke directly to the people about the Syrian
conflict, he wishes that Obama had spoken “more forcefully about the need to
increase our military assistance to moderate opposition forces in Syria.” McCain along with 34 other members of Congress were a part of The Huffington Post reaction article.
