Obama's Speech on Syria

One key point that President Obama made in his speech about a strike against Syria was that while it is not the place of the United States to be the "world's policeman," it is also not the place of the United States to ignore the crimes that were committed in Syria. He appeals to the nation's ethics by describing the horror that has occurred to thousands of children in Syria, including detailed descriptions as well as images in an attempt to sway his viewers. He discusses similar uses of chemical weapons in history, including World War I and the Holocaust.
According to Fox News, Obama's speech left the nation as divided as before. Sen. Paul states that Obama's lack of a strong, outlined military plan will not result in any change in the Syrian regime if it follows the description the president gives, and therefore is not a valid option. Many republican leaders argue along the same lines that the president must be more forceful with Syria, as well as clear with what their consequences will be should they not discontinue their use of chemical weapons. Democrats interviewed applaud his speech.
